Another study reveals that online gambling is growing in popularity among young people. About 20% of college students play online poker at least monthly, according to the Annenberg Public Policy Center, a group that studies the gambling habits of young people. In 2010, the Annenberg Public Policy Center surveyed college students in the United States, comparing their survey results with those of 2008. It revealed that the percentage of college-age males who play internet poker each month increased from 4.4% to 16.0%, although the percentage of weekly users remained at about 3%.

While the federal government regulates online gambling, each state has its own regulations. Despite this, there are a number of different states that allow online gambling. Currently, twenty states allow residents to bet on sporting events online and use online poker sites.
